Known and Unknown is a new and unique book series, expanding upon the legendary people of Estonian culture, whose life and work has shaped the way we feel and think. From the books of this series we discover unknown and often surprising details of the lives and works of these people – unpublished verses, a little known or even unknown works of art, exciting designs and bizarre twists and moves of their creativity.

While exploring the archive of Villu Toots we found a collection of drawings, which were made decades ago for Marie Under’s book of verses, but had been left unpublished.

Now a new Marie Under’s collection of selected poems, which is compiled by Sirje Olesk, is published, and it has a subtitle with many shades of meaning: “Let me speak to you...” This collection is illustrated by Villu Toots’ one of a kind calligraphical drawings, which are inspired by Marie Under’s poetry.

The first part of this collection of selected poems is nostalgically retrospective exile classics, among which are some of the poet’s political poems. The second part of the book is love poetry with a hint of eroticism. The third part of the collection’s verses gives a sense of gentle conciliation, but also an evidence of vitality, which is common of Under.
